Candidates competing in the election of Nepal Nursing Association scheduled to take place in January are busy asking for votes.

Organizing an event in the Capital today Progressive group which is supposed to be close to the ruling Nepal Communist Party issued its 19 point commitment. The group has also included two male candidates in its panel. It has selected its male nursing staff Ramesh Subba, Mental Health and Psychiatric nursing Head of Department  for the position of Senior vice-chair. Subba had completed staff nurse from Birgunj in 2050 BS. He worked as ANM as he was not allowed to work as a staff nurse. "It encouraged me to work against the anomalies happening in the nursing sector."

After six months of his completion of nursing education he was able to get selected in BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Subba has been raising his voices against the anomalies in the nursing sector.
When asked "Are you the candidate in a male quota ?" Subba replied "Earlier I used to introduce myself as a male but a nurse is a nurse. There is no gender male or a female in it. There is no question on quota. I am against this quota system. I dislike the idea of 15 per cent quota in nursing education," Subba said.
Similarly the progressive panel has selected a male for the janajati position. Hari Prasad Koju, Nursing invigilator at Bhaktapur Hospital, Bhaktapur has been selected as a candidate for the post. He has been working as a nurse since the last 26 years. "We are here as candidates for the posts for the participation and existence of males in nursing profession. There were only three-four batches of nurses earlier. From among them many changed the profession, some went abroad but 40-50 of us are working. A total of 15 per cent quota has been allocated to the males since last year in nursing education."
