The government of China came up with a new law so that it could prevent any kind of violence against medical workers after a female doctor was stabbed to death at a hospital in Beijing.

Yang Wen, who was working at the Beijing Civil Aviation General Hospital's emergency ward, was stabbed by a man on 24 December. It was reported that the man was relatives of a patient being treated at the hospital.

China's state media reported that the new law will ban any organization or individual from creating threats or harms to the personal safety or dignity of any medical workers.

"We are deeply aggrieved and enraged by this incident, particularly as the relevant law was being deliberated," said Zhao Ning, an official at the National Health Commission, as quoted by BBC.

As per the new law, those disturbing the medical environment, or harming medical workers' safety and dignity will be given administrative punishments such as detention or a fine. It will also punish people found illegally obtaining, using or disclosing people's private healthcare information.
